Black Interiors
Black is not typically associated with the interior design sector.
Darker tones, are generally used to frame views or when accessorising spaces. Styling with darker shades in small doses, works to ensure rooms do not feel or look dark, dingy and dull.
House of Bohn, successfully encapsulates designing using a black backdrop, contrasted with white and gold accessories alongside soft furnishings.
Hues with yellow undertones, similar to gold, khaki and amber, compliment darker shades, such as black, navy and brown. These colours create soft distinctions, that marry together forming a harmonious scheme. The use of textured walls and flooring, add a depth of personality to these spaces, reflecting a unique and memorable concept.
Creating a feature wall is an alternative design technique, that can be used when decorating with darker colours. A great tip if you would like to experiment with bold hues, but feel indecisive, is to paint the daring colour on the wall behind where your bed will be situated!
This will enable the colour to not feel overwhelming or routine, as it will only be seen from all angles in your room, except when in bed. Acting as as a surprise factor every moment when seen. Creating an exhibiting feel in you own space, that can be updated and transformed according to your mood!
Designing with darker tones, is quite adventurous and can feel final, if this is out of your comfort zone. A similar way that this trend can be adopted, is through using dark furniture and accessories to dress your space. Maintaining a blank canvas, in your environment, provides you with the freedom to experiment with hue and accessories, monthly or yearly, and is a cost effective hobby!
