Naomi In Fashion
Naomi in Fashion is an exhibition that offers a captivating glimpse into her humble beginnings, paving the way for her incredible career as a living fashion icon.
Discovered at the age of 15 by model agent Beth Boldt while out with friends in London's Covent Garden; Naomi Campbell’s career trajectory was set. Within two years, she had appeared in British Vogue and walked for leading designers in London, Paris, Milan, and New York.
Campbell initially dreamed of pursuing a career in theatre. Her early modeling work included editorials, clothing catalogues, and advertisements, where photographers often drew on her dance background to guide her poses.
By the early 1990s, Naomi Campbell, along with Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Tatjana Patitz, and Linda Evangelista, had achieved international fame as part of the elite group known as supermodels, a period when fashion emerged as a form of mass entertainment.
Campbell walked in this and many other Chanel runway shows. Reflecting on her collaboration with Lagerfeld, she recalls how the designer would often ask, 'What would YOU put on it?' encouraging her to choose her own accessories
'“When I did my community service, the paparazzi were there from the first day treating it as I were doing a runway show. So, when the last day came, l decided I wanted to walk out and leave with my head held up high, I chose to wear this.”
While models traditionally specialised in either print or runway work, Campbell excelled at both. She became renowned for her flawless walk, and her collaborations with esteemed photographers resulted in some of the most iconic images of the era.
Campbell’s iconic hazmat travel attire during 2020, was described by Vogue as one of the "most symbolic looks of 2020."
The custom made LV Print Leather Ensemble was desiged by Pharrell Williams for his first Louis Vuitton Men's show.
Burberry is a storied British brand with roots tracing back to the 19th century. When Campbell was invited to participate in Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee Pageant, she chose a Riccardo Tisci gown for Burberry, after consulting with Kate Moss. This Reconstructed Trench Ball Gown, inspired by the classic trench coat, exudes British heritage.
